I want to thank you so much for the wonderful work you did for CIYCL (the California Institute for Yiddish Culture & Language) at our cultural event, "The Kiss of Yiddish", December 15-16,
2007. Not only did you give a terrific performance of Yiddish love songs and wedding songs on December 15 at the LA Yiddish Culture Club, but you were able to beautifully and sensitively teach some of these songs at your workshop at UCLA on December 16.
I received great comments about both your performance and your workshop from many who attended. And I especially appreciated the comprehensive introduction you gave to Yiddish song/klezmer music in the workshop, which put the songs that followed in a real context.
The selection of songs you taught was unusual, and reflected your
unique experience in Yiddish musicological research, which I also appreciated.
You were able to teach even the more complex (musically and
lyrically) songs with sensitivity, humor, and success!
Again, thank you so much for your important role in creating
the kind of high quality and enriching cultural program with which
CIYCL prides
itself.
Sincerely,
Miriam Koral
